If you haven't yet, go apply to join the Humble Kingz Song Writing Challenge Group on Facebook. In this group, we will be sharing tips and tactics on how to improve your song writing and issuing a monthly challenge to help get you excited about song writing. You can find last months submissions on that page too.


For the month of November, we are focusing on writing a hook. Watch this video for some tips from the team on how to write an effective hook.

To reiterate, those pointers are listed below:

  1. Hooks your listener

  2. Catchy

  3. Repetitive

  4. Chanty - easy for listeners to sing along to

  5. Memorable - People remember hooks and forget verses

  6. Enforces the idea of the song

  7. Not always in the chorus - Derek Minor - Hot Air Balloon “He might about them problems, but we paying the price”

  8. There can be multiple hooks in a song

  9. Can be used throughout the song - Colossal - Canon, nobigdyl., Steven Malcolm

  10. Keep it simple

  11. Doesn’t need to relate to the verse

  12. There’s no one size fits all

That's it. Plain and simple. Deadline is November 20th. Post your submissions as audio or video in the Humble Kingz Song Writing Challenge Group on Facebook.


The winner will be voted on and will be used as the hook for the December challenge.
